As someone that buys a lot of clothing, I know that it can be hard for people to think about where what they buy comes from, I used these figurative sculptures to portray the concept of fast fashion, with the front sculpture representing that idea of glamour that we often see on social media. Everything on this figure is shiny, the skin being bronze, the hair and base having glitter, and the whole piece decorated with golden foil. It’s tied to the second sculpture through the fabric seen around its neck, the same fabric being in the arms of the second figure, this figure being the complete opposite of the first, having no decorated features as well as the base being a plain wood scrap. These two figures work alone but they are stronger when seen next to each other as the viewer is now prompted to think about how the two are tied.

My Gregor’s room installation capitalizes on the idea of the transformation that the story centralizes around, every piece of furniture made to resemble a bug, whether it be through color or shape. The window being colored like a bee and the pillow being made to be a centipede. The only piece of this project that isn’t a bug directly is Gregor, whom is represented through a cocoon or chrysalis, this being done in order to represent the change he went through in the story. Another aspect of the colors for my pieces was the outline seen on every piece, blue being interpreted as the coldness outside both figuratively and literally. When you take all of this in, the cocoon seen on the bed shows that a transformation is happening regardless of how the being inside feels.

Dinner & A Movie Final

Triplets

Artist Statement

To start off with the main idea behind my piece was to portray the idea of outcasts, this was done by having each dark green bowl on the outer portion turn away, causing all the milk to turn away as well. Furthermore, I needed the “outcasts” to resemble each other in order to depict a sense of closeness, this was done through the use of the number three that appears repeatedly, seen through the bowls without milk, the spoons in the center, as well as the vines branching out from the same stem. While each bowl in the center is a different color, they are also the only objects that appear to be “colorful” when put against this otherwise melancholy scene.
